Indian Broad Bean seeds stir fry/Gwarphali/ Chikkudu ginjala koora

Very healthy protein rich food, that my hubby love is this one. I can have it just by boiling them with some salt and finally by seasoning with little salt and pepper. they come out very delicious however you cook. 

here is the pic of broad beans how they look.


  •  2 cups of Chikkudukaya Ginjalu (seeds)
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 tbsp red chili powder
  • 1tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2ts coriander powder
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp each of mustard seeds, cumin, urad dal, channa dal
  • 2 dry red chilies
  • ¼ cup of shredded dry coconut
  1. Wash the broad bean seeds thoroughly.
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, when they splutter, add cumin, garlic, dry red chilies, urad dal, channa dal and saute them until, urad dal is light brown.
  3. Add and saute the chopped onion for few minutes until they look transparent. Then add ginger garlic paste cook till the raw flavor goes away.
  4. Add tomato puree, dry coconut powder and cook until the raw flavor of tomato goes away.
  5. Add boiled seed and Sauté for 2 minutes. Add chili powder, coriander powder & salt. Stir and cook the curry on medium heat for about 2 minutes.
  6. Adjust the taste & finally garnish with cilantro/ coriander.
  7. Serve hot with rice.

  5. I found some beans in Denver at an ethnic market. They were called "giant" beans. I wonder if they are the same thing?

How to make delicious soft bread buns with self rising flour?

We can play with the bread bun recipe. Every one has their own version of making them. I had experimented with different kinds of recipes and came out with my own recipe which is perfect for making soft buns. These buns are perfect for making sandwich/tea time snack. I love self rising flour and its uses, I had already posted pan cakes and cake with self rising flour. It is very easy to use and yields very fruitful results.
Now coming to recipe

Makes 8 medium size buns
Self rising flour-3cups(When measured with 160ml cup)
Salt-1/4tea spoon
Butter-1 cup(melted and measured with 160ml cup)
Egg-1+1 for wash (coat on surface of unbaked bun)
Dry active Yeast-1tbsp

Dhokla with the readymade flour available in the market

Dhokla is one of the dish I always wanted to try, this time I bought some ready made dokla flour form the "Patel brothers" one of the Indian grocery store in our near by area. The ingredients on the pack say that it contains besin (Gram flour) and rice flour. I was little confused, about the kind of ingredients that goes into the recipe. Later I did a little research and came up with my own recipe. It worked, dokla came out wonderfully. I never tasted dokla before, but now after making this yummy and healthy Indian flour cakes, I regret for not tasting them before. Form now dokla always stays in the weekly snack menu of our home.

I feel so dumb sometimes, because I bought dokla flour but forgot the fact that I do not have dokla plates. If your case is same like me, give me "high-5"!! No problem you can use the idli plates instead. Problem solved!  Now coming to the recipe.
